Microwave link

Microwave radio is a state-of-the-art, ubiquitous data transmission technology.

Microwave radio networks can be implemented quickly (4 weeks), have very high availability, offer a high standard of security, and are also highly cost-effective.

With microwave radio, we lead companies into the digital age – because without internet connectivity, there are no digital services! Furthermore, microwave radio offers a primary or redundant data transmission option, for example, to ensure the high availability of cloud applications with a so-called node- and edge-disjoint data connection.

What is legally required for companies in critical infrastructure (NIS2) is more than sensible for all other organizational units to maintain business operations in the event of a failure of the central data connection. Wherever fiber optics are (not yet) available, too expensive, or not fail-safe enough, we create solutions with our professional microwave radio systems.

Microwave solutions

Wireless data transmission over long distances – simple and fast.

Point-to-point

Point-to-point microwave radio connects two fixed locations via a directional radio link and enables reliable data transmission over long distances. This technology is ideal when wired solutions like fiber optics are unavailable or uneconomical. Fast, stable, and cost-efficient data transmission – perfect for rural areas, building connectivity, or as a backup.

Point-to-multipoint

Point-to-multipoint microwave radio uses a central base station to serve multiple remote locations via directional radio links. This technology enables efficient data transmission from a central point to multiple receivers and is frequently used in rural areas or for broadband internet services.

Site networking

A reliable, cost-efficient solution for fast data exchange between locations – ideal for regions without fiber optics and with the highest demands on security and performance.
Existing infrastructure usually does not offer sufficient bandwidth, and the expansion of additional fiber-optic connections is either too expensive or not feasible in terms of time.

Microwave towers

Our custom radio mast solutions provide the perfect foundation for reliable and stable data transmission – whether for mobile communications, microwave radio, or other communication applications. With high-quality Steelroot masts and comprehensive inspection and maintenance services, we ensure that your network infrastructure meets the highest requirements at all times.

Microwave radio in a nutshell

Why choose microwave radio?

Microwave radio is more than just an alternative to wired connections. Professional carrier-class systems enable an autonomous connection between two locations, ideal for companies without a broadband connection or as a redundant solution to fiber optics. With transmission rates of up to 20 Gbit/s full-duplex and availability exceeding 99.995%, microwave radio offers low latency and high security against eavesdropping. Modern systems use adaptive modulation to compensate for weather influences and are implemented quickly and cost-effectively. Often realizable within a few weeks, the investment costs are significantly lower than with wired solutions, while operating costs also remain low.

How microwave radio works

Microwave radio works by transmitting data via electromagnetic waves between two fixed points (Point-to-Point, PTP) or from a central point to multiple endpoints (Point-to-Multipoint, PTMP). Specialized directional antennas focus these waves into a narrow beam that requires a direct line of sight. This technology can bridge distances of up to 50 km and achieves high transmission rates. It utilizes license-free frequency bands and offers low latency as well as high data security. Microwave systems use adaptive modulation to ensure transmission quality despite weather conditions.

Microwave as a wide area network

Microwave radio is an efficient solution for wide area networks (WAN). With transmission rates of up to 20 Gbit/s full-duplex, microwave links offer a high-performance alternative to wired networks. Projects can often be realized within a few days or weeks, leading to payback periods of just 10 to 18 months. The equipment is modular and scalable, making it easy to expand. Microwave networks are characterized by high availability (over 99.995%) and reliability. They are secure against eavesdropping and offer genuine redundancy options. Additionally, they support Quality of Service (QoS) and VLAN, allowing for optimized management and prioritization of data traffic.

Microwave radio represents a forward-looking, versatile, and cost-efficient solution for the requirements of modern wide area networks.

Microwave solutions for ISPs

Internet Service Providers often face significant challenges in ensuring timely broadband coverage due to missing or outdated cable infrastructure. Microwave radio links offer a unique, complementary solution to fiber-optic infrastructure. Numerous telecommunications providers, especially mobile network operators, have been successfully relying on carrier-class microwave systems for years. This technology enables rapid data delivery to the ever-increasing number of mobile cell towers.

The advantages are clear:
Rapid implementation: Microwave links are often ready for use faster than fiber optics.
Increased redundancy: Boosts overall network availability.
Cost-efficiency: Low investment and operating costs.

Additionally, professional microwave technology offers service providers significant added value:
Connecting remote areas: Serving "white spots" that would be uneconomical to reach with cables.
Temporary solutions: Securing customer relationships before fiber-optic completion.
Media-neutral redundancy: Continuous broadband supply during cable outages.

The German federal government's broadband initiative provides financial support for the expansion of broadband technology. Microwave radio helps to close coverage gaps quickly and economically, making it more than just a bridge technology.
